Tucson Padres News Release
Jeff Manship tossed 6.1 scoreless innings to pace the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to a 2-0 victory over the Tucson Padres Thursday at Kino Stadium. The Padres have now been shutout ten times this season as their first place lead drops to 1.5 games in the Southern Division.
The Sky Sox struck first in the opening inning with a run on Corey Dickerson's RBI groundout to second. Lars Davis' infield single in the fourth brought home Tim Wheeler for the only other run of the game. Padres second baseman Jonathan Galvez prevented Reid Brignac from obtaining a hit in the fifth with a spectacular defensive play, diving to his left and making a throw from a sitting position to record the out at first base.
Manship earned his fifth win of the season, scattering two hits and three walks, while striking out six. Tucson starter Tyson Ross took the loss after going four innings, allowing two runs on five hits. The Padres bullpen of Brandon Kloess, Brad Boxberger and Tommy Layne pitched five scoreless innings and compiled five strikeouts.
