
Captains Smack Two Homers and Win 5-3

Lake County Captains News Release
(Lansing, MI) - DJ Brown pitched four innings shutout innings and helped the Captains (28-26) to the 5-3 win over the Lugnuts (22-33) on Saturday Night. Brown walked one and struck out three. Brown earned his first save of the season. The Captains have won six of their last seven games.
The Captains scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Lake County sent eight men to the plate and used three hits and two walks to take the early lead. Joe Sever singled home LeVon Washington and Eric Haase walked with the bases loaded and the score was 2-0.
Lansing tied the ballgame in the bottom of the first inning. The Lugnuts sent seven hitters to the plate and used two hits a walk and a hit batter to tie the game. The big play was a two out fly ball to center field and the ball was miss-played for an error. The Lugnuts scored two runs and the game was tied.
Lake County got the lead in the fifth inning. Jeremy Lucas hit a solo homerun to give the Captains the 3-2 lead. The homer was the fifth of the season for Lucas. Joe Sever singled and the Eric Haase blasted his team leading 13th homerun of the season to deep left field and the score was 5-2 Captains. Lanisng got a run back in the bottom of the fifth inning after a double by Emilio Guerrero, Dwight Smith Jr. hit a fly ball which advanced Guerrero to third. Guerrero scored on a ground ut by Christian Lopes and the score was 5-3. That was the final.
RHP Robbie Aviles (4-3) started the game for Lake County and got the win. Aviles pitched five innings and allowed three hits, three runs, one of which was earned. Aviles walked three and struck out one. Robbie also hit two batters.
RHP Kendall Graveman (0-2) took the ball for Lansing and got the loss. Graveman allowed four earned runs on seven hits, he walked three and struck out five. Graveman allowed the homerun to Lucas. The Lansing bullpen allowed one earned run on four hits. They surrendered the two run homer to Haase. They walked four and fanned six.
The Captains will remain in Lansing, Michigan on Sunday to take on the Lansing Lugnuts in game two of a four game series. The Captains will send RHP Jake Sisco (4-10, 4.72) to the mound to start the ballgame and the Lugnuts will counter with RHP Ben White (0-1, 3.98). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Cooley Law School Stadium.
