Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN - Lincoln's red-hot bats finally cooled as the Shreveport-Bossier Captains avoided the series sweep by topping the Saltdogs 5-2 in front of 3,051 fans at Haymarket Park Sunday evening.

The Captains scored all five of their runs with two outs, highlighted by a Bryan Sabatella two-run double to left in the top of the fifth to put Shreveport-Bossier ahead 4-0.

Lincoln scored its first run in the bottom of the fifth on a Kevin Rios RBI single but could not inflict any further damage from a bases loaded, no out scenario.

Blake Gailen led off the seventh with a triple and came in to score two batters later on a Phil Hawke sacrifice fly to pull the 'Dogs to within two but that is as close as they would get.

Osvaldo Rodriguez (2-1) pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking two to earn the win. Tim Brown (2-4) went seven innings, allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out three and walking two to suffer the loss. Dan Griffin tossed a perfect ninth to notch his eighth save.

The Saltdogs travel up to St. Paul to open a three-game series with the Saints beginning Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Alex Maestri (2-3, 4.81) is expected to pitch for Lincoln against Donald Brandt (3-1, 4.21) for St. Paul. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.

The Saltdogs return home to Haymarket Park Thursday against the Sioux City Explorers. It is Thirsty Thursday featuring $2 select beer drafts and Pepsi fountain drinks, as well as $1 tacos courtesy of Amigos. For team and ticket information please call 402-474-BALL or visit www.saltdogs.com.
