
Cats Avoid Sweep With 8-4 Win Over Sox

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox tried for the third time this season to sweep an opponent, but for the third time, the opposition came out on top as the Fort Worth Cats defeated the Sox 8-4 on Sunday night in front of 2,738 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.
Amarillo starter Ryan Mitchell (1-2) got the loss, allowing seven runs off 10 hits with six strikeouts. Fort Worth starter Cody White (2-2) got the win in allowing only one run in four and two-thirds inning of relief.
The Sox got on the board in the first inning as Fehlandt Lentini walked, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on a Cyle Hankerd RBI single for a 1-0 Amarillo advantage.
Fort Worth took the lead in the third inning as Derek Kinzler led off with a single and went to third on a Johnathon Moore single. Cory Morales hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game, Travis Metcalf doubled to score Moore, while Marcos Rodriguez singled to score Metcalf for a two-run lead. Trent Lockwood hit a two-run homerun in the fifth for a 5-1 Cats lead.
Amarillo got two runs in the fifth as Jason White walked, went to second on a Lentini single and scored on a Hankerd RBI single. Lentini would cross home on an error by the right fielder for a two-run Sox deficit. Fort Worth got another run in the sixth as Kinzler led off with a double, went to third on a Moore single and scored on a Morales single to bring the score to 6-3 in favor of the Cats.
Lockwood hit an RBI double in the seventh, while Kinzler hit a sacrifice fly for a five-run lead for Fort Worth.
Lee Cruz hit a solo homerun in the ninth, but Amarillo could not get back on the board through the remainder of the game to fall to the Cats 8-4.
With the loss, the Sox fall to 11-17 while the Cats fall to 13-16. Monday, Amarillo will welcome in the El Paso Diablos for the opening game of a three-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 5:50pm.
