Lake County Captains News Release
(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains (7-9) and Lansing Lugnuts (5-11) battled through a cold 40 degree night and windy Tuesday evening. The Lugnuts pushed ahead after a two-run eighth inning to secure a narrow 3-1 victory.
Both starting pitchers provided great performances. David Leal retired the first six batters he faced and nine of the first 10. Lake County starter Tanner Bibee worked around runners in scoring position in the second and third, accumulating five strikeouts over three innings.
Bibee would leave the game following the first batter faced in the fourth, after in that at-bat a line drive came back and struck him. Lansing would plate a run in that inning, after an error and a pass ball. After that Matt Turner forced two groundouts.
Leal worked through the middle innings as well. The left-hander only allowed two hits, both to Micael Ramirez, through six innings pitched. The lone Captains run came in the fifth, against Leal but was unearned. Raynel Delgado reached via an error from the shortstop and would come home on a sacrifice fly from Gabriel Rodriguez after being moved to third on a Ramirez single.
In the seventh, Lake County had an opportunity to tie. Delgado singled, stole second and went to third after a wild pitch. He would stay there after a groundout to third ended the inning.
After a scoreless top of the seventh inning, Raymond Burgos allowed three consecutive hits to begin the eighth. The inning featured an RBI double from Brett Harris that gave Lansing a 2-1 lead. A sacrifice fly would make it a two-run game.
The Captains would go down in order in the eighth and ninth.
Lake County and Lansing are back in action at Classic Park tomorrow Wednesday, April 27th, with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. Fans 21 and over can enjoy 12 oz. White Claws for only three dollars.
Coverage of the game can be found on WJCU.org/Captains and the MiLB First Pitch app.
