West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

PEORIA, IL - The West Michigan Whitecaps exploded for 14 runs in their series clinching victory over the Peoria Chiefs, 14-4, on Friday night at O'Brien Field. ‘Caps starter Brandon Hamilton threw well, and the defense came through with a steady effort. West Michigan now turns their attention to the top team in the Midwest League's western division, the Kane County Cougars.

The Whitecaps established new season highs in runs scored for a game and runs scored in an inning. The previous high for a game had been 13, set not even week ago. ‘Caps hitters had totaled 5 runs in an inning twice betfore, but their 9 run effort in the seventh was sensational. West Michigan sent 12 men to the plate, getting 9 runs on 7 hits.

Starter Brandon Hamilton was solid on the mound for the win. He went 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Hamilton did give up 2 homeruns, however, as the Chiefs hit back-to-back homers in the sixth.

All nine starters had at least one hit for the Whitecaps. Billy Nowlin had 4 hits, including 2 homeruns, and 5 RBI. Avisail Garcia had his finest night at the plate as a Whitecap going 4-5 with 3 RBI.

The Whitecaps knocked out Peoria starter Alberto Cabrera early. Cabrera lasted 3.2 innings, giving up 8 hits, 5 runs, 3 were earned, with 1 walk as he took the loss. The defense did him no favors. Peoria committed 4 errors in the game.

Jordan Lennerton finished the night 3-6, and Joe Bowen went 2-5 with a double.

The Whitecaps will open up a three game series in Kane County over the weekend. Game one is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST on Saturday night.
