CLINTON, IA - The host Clinton LumberKings (21-20) halted a seven-game losing streak and avoided a sweep at the hands of the Lansing Lugnuts (14-25), defeating the Lugnuts, 6-4, on Friday night at Alliant Energy Field.

Balbino Fuenmayor went 2-for-4 for the Lugnuts with a solo home run and an RBI single in a two-run ninth inning but the late rally proved too little, too late for Lansing.

Clinton had scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, climaxed by a Jake Shaffer two-run single, to expand a 3-2 lead to 6-2.

Earlier in the inning, Lugnuts manager Clayton McCullough had been ejected by home plate Allen Alvarez following a dispute over a checked bunt-swing by Kris Sanchez as he was hit by a Hunter Moody pitch.

LumberKings starter Kenn Kasparek (2-4) earned the victory with seven strong innings, allowing only home runs to Fuenmayor and Brian Van Kirk.

Lugnuts starter Chase Lirette scattered five hits over five innings, striking out five while giving up one run before yielding to his bullpen.

Yorman Mayora (2-1) suffered the defeat, serving up a two-run homer to Clinton catcher Travis Howell that put the home team on top, 3-2, in the sixth inning.

Lansing next travels to Cedar Rapids to begin a three-game series. The opener of the series will take place on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m., with right-hander Chad Beck making his Lugnuts debut against Kernels right-hander Ryan Chaffee (2-1, 2.77).
