Canton Charge Set 2018-19 Training Camp Roster
October 20, 2018 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge, powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, today announced the full list of players that will compete when the team opens training camp this Tuesday. The training camp roster consists of two NBA G League Draft selections, a pair of Two-Way Cleveland Cavaliers players, five returning Charge players, four affiliate players and four players added via the team's local open tryout.
In today's NBA G League Draft, Canton traded the rights to their first round pick (7th overall) to the Capital City Go-Go for their 2019 first round pick and the rights to Westchester's second round pick (54th overall). The Charge selected G ShawnDre' Jones with their own second round choice (34th overall) and F Freddie McSwain with the acquired Westchester pick.
G/F John Holland returns to the Charge in his role as a Cleveland Cavaliers Two-Way Contract player. Holland appeared in 24 games with the Cavs last season and 23 with the Charge, leading the latter by averaging 18.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 34.2 minutes per game. Rookie F Billy Preston fills the other Two-Way slot after appearing in three games (two starts) with BC Igokea of the Adriatic League in Europe during the 2017-18 season. Preston was also a 2017 McDonald's High School All-American after his senior year at Oak Hill Academy (VA).
Coming off spending 2018 NBA Summer League with the Cavs, G Scoochie Smith is one of five returning players on the training camp roster: G Isaac Hamilton, G Kevin Olekaibe, F Sir'Dominic Pointer and F JaCorey Williams will also all return to Canton this preseason. Williams played in all 50 games as a rookie last season for the Charge (40 starts) and averaged 15.6 points on .544 shooting with 7.7 rebounds in 30.7 minutes per game.
F Bonzie Colson, G Levi Randolph, G Kobi Simmons and F Emanuel Terry all come to Canton as affiliate players after attending Cavs training camp and getting some action in preseason games with the Wine & Gold. Colson & Terry are rookies entering their first professional seasons while Randolph and Simmons both have prior experience in the NBA and NBA G League.
Four players will be in training camp via the team's local tryouts last month: G/F Jaron Hopkins, C Akolda Manyang, G Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman and F Jarrid Rhodes.
Training camp begins at the team's official practice facility, Edgewood Community Center, on Tuesday, October 23rd. Final rosters will be set at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November, 1st. Below is the complete list of players:
