Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Erie SeaWolves (37-41) kicked off a five game series with a thrilling 4-3 win over the Bowie Baysox (34-45).
The SeaWolves struck first in the opening frame against Bowie starter Christian Binford. Will Maddox and Daz Cameron got aboard with back-to-back one-out singles before an RBI-single from Dominic Ficociello brought Maddox around to score while Cameron advanced to third. Afterwards, a sacrifice fly from Kody Eaves allowed Daz to come home as Erie took an early 2-0 lead.
The Baysox answered in the third inning against starter Beau Burrows. Erick Salcedo got on with a one-out walk before Jaycob Brugman sent a two-run home run to right-center, as Bowie tied the game 2-2.
The Wolves responded in the bottom of the third as Ficociello got aboard via a hit by pitch before three consecutive singles from Eaves, Jake Rogers and Josh Lester. Lester's knock brought in Ficociello to give Erie the 3-2 lead.
The Baysox replied in the fourth, as Aderlin Rodriguez got on with a one-out double. Ademar Rifaela brought him home on a single to knot it up at 3-3.
The Howlers came back in the seventh. Cameron smoked a triple and managed to come home due to a throwing error on Rifaela as Erie reclaimed the lead 4-3. It would prove to be the deciding run as Erie's pitching prevented any opposing comeback.
SeaWolves pitcher Trent Szkutnik (2-1) picked up the win, giving up a hit and a walk while striking out one in 1.1 relief innings. John Schreiber earned his 9th save of the season, giving up a lone hit in one inning. Starter Beau Burrows went 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
Baysox pitcher Reid Love (2-2) got the loss, giving up an unearned run on two hits while striking out three over two innings. Starter Christian Binford went five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out two.
The SeaWolves will continued their five-game home stand tomorrow night with a 7:05 pm first pitch. Erie wil send RHP Alex Faedo (0-0, 3.00 ERA) to the mound while Bowie will have LHP Brian Gonzalez (1-4, 8.16 ERA).
