Altoona Curve News Release
AKRON, Ohio - After scoring two in the eighth to force extras, the Altoona Curve beat the Akron RubberDucks, 7-5, in ten innings in Saturday night at Canal Park, and Curve infielder Logan Ratledge picked up the save on the mound.
The Curve (41-35) scored seven of the final eight runs in the game to win the second of five games against the RubberDucks (46-35).
Trailing 5-3 in the eighth, Jordan George drove a two-run single to tie the game at 5-5.
The Curve loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Mitch Brown (Loss, 1-4) worked a pair of flyouts to keep the go-ahead run from scoring.
In the tenth, Christian Kelley put the Curve ahead with an RBI single and Stephen Alemais added a second run with a sacrifice fly to open the lead to 7-5.
In the bottom of the tenth, Altoona brought Ratledge (Save, 1) to the mound for the first save try of his career. He worked around a walk to strand two runners on base to end the game. He picked up a strikeout of Tyler Krieger in the inning.
Akron jumped ahead in the second inning against Altoona's Tate Scioneaux, who was making his second straight spot start. Mark Mathias hit a three-run homer and Ka'ai Tom added an RBI double to open an early 4-0 lead.
The Curve scored three in the sixth to close within one run. Ke'Bryan Hayes brought home a run with a triple and Will Craig drove an RBI single, with an additional run scoring on a fielding error by Tom in left field.
Akron pushed the lead back to two runs in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single by Joe Sever.
Altoona relievers Logan Sendelbach and Geoff Hartlieb (Win, 6-2) each pitched two scoreless innings.
Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco started for Akron on a major league rehab assignment and held Altoona to one hit over four scoreless innings.
Hayes finished the night 2-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Bryan Reynolds walked twice, going 1-for-3 with three runs scored. Craig and Kelley each had two hits.
The Curve and RubberDucks play the third of the five-game series on Sunday afternoon. Left-hander Taylor Hearn (3-5, 3.28) is scheduled to start for the Curve, opposed RubberDucks right-hander Jake Paulson (4-3, 2.71). First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. at Canal Park.
