Calder Cup tour heads to San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – Mar. 8, 2005 – The San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League announced today that the AHL championship trophy, the Calder Cup, will be in San Antonio for three days this week. Beginning Wednesday, Mar. 9 through Friday, Mar. 11, the Calder Cup will be in the Alamo City as part of its’ 12,000-mile, 19-city, 47-day tour leading up to the start of the 2005 AHL playoffs.

The prize of the AHL will be on display as the Rampage host the Cleveland Barons on Thursday, Mar. 10 and Friday, Mar. 11. The Calder Cup will also travel around the city of San Antonio visiting various businesses as well as CHRISTUS Santa Rosa ChildrenÂ’s Hospital and select elementary schools.

The 2005 Calder Cup Tour offers fans the opportunity to view up close one of the oldest trophies in North American sports. The Calder Cup, which has been competed for since the 1936-37 season, features the names of players, coaches and support staff from the last 20 American Hockey League champions (the other 48 championsÂ’ plaques are on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto), and is accompanied by a special display highlighting the intensity and excitement of the Calder Cup Playoffs.
