
Wolves Add First-Rounders Bouwmeester and Weiss

The Chicago Wolves have acquired Florida Panthers first-round draft picks defenseman JAY BOUWMEESTER (BOW-mee-stuhr) and center STEPHEN WEISS (WIGHS) on loan from the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage.
BOUWMEESTER and WEISS, who both competed in the National Hockey League's 2003 YoungStars Game, are expected to be in the lineup when the Wolves meet the Hamilton Bulldogs on Fri., March 11, at 6:30 p.m.
"They're two young prospects that are going to get a chance to show themselves in the playoffs," said Wolves General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. "We expect them to have a tremendous impact on our team and hopefully help us achieve our ultimate goal of winning the Calder Cup."
BOUWMEESTER was selected by the Panthers third overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft  one behind Wolves goaltender Kari Lehtonen. The 21-year-old blueliner has registered 30 assists and 36 points in 143 NHL games spanning two seasons with the Panthers (2002-2004).
BOUWMEESTER was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team and finished seventh in Calder Trophy (rookie of the year) voting after accruing 12 assists and 16 points in 2002-03.
The Edmonton, Alberta, native, who won the 2004 World Cup of Hockey with Team Canada, has collected 13 assists, 17 points and 50 penalty minutes in 64 games this year with San Antonio. BOUWMEESTER also represented the Rampage in the 2005 AHL All-Star Game.
WEISS, Florida's first pick, fourth overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, has accumulated 19 goals, 33 assists, 52 points and 27 penalty minutes in 134 NHL games with the Panthers (2001-2004).
Last year, the 21-year-old forward recorded NHL career-highs with 12 goals and 17 assists, while finishing fourth on the Panthers with a career-best 29 points in 50 games.
The Toronto, Ontario, native paces San Antonio with 15 goals and 38 points in 62 games this year.
