Burawa, Gosselin Make Major-League Headlines Sunday

Madison, Wis. - Madison Mallards alumni Phil Gosselin and Danny Burawa, contributors 2008 and 2009 rosters, respectively, made Major-League headlines on Sunday.

Gosselin, 26, was traded from the Atlanta Braves to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a three-player swap between National League clubs. Atlanta received top pitching prospect Touki Toussaint and veteran starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo in return for Gosselin, a former Mallards infielder who batted .325 with four doubles in 40 at-bats this season for Atlanta.

Drafted by Atlanta in the fifth round of the 2010 first-year amateur draft, Gosselin posted a .282 batting average across 174 career at-bats since becoming the 110th former Northwoods League alumni to reach the big-leagues in 2013. Gosselin's 2008 campaign with Madison concluded with a .270 average, 24 runs batted in and seven triples in 55 games.

Burawa, 26, was recalled by the New York Yankees from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre to appear in is big-league debut Sunday against the Detroit Tigers. The 6-foot-3 native of Riverhead, N.Y., recorded two outs in relief of starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, allowing four earned runs on three hits, one walk and one strikeout.

Selected in the twelfth round of the 2010 draft out of St. John's University, Burawa garnered an ERA of 3.46 and 8.7 K/9 ratio across five minor league seasons prior to his promotion, with his 2015 campaign in the International League being arguably his best to date. Burawa's 2009 campaign with Madison yielded a 10.8 K/9 mark across 34.1 frames.
