Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mallards (17-11) captured their sixth and seventh consecutive victories via their pair of seven-inning triumphs over the Wisconsin Woodchucks (9-18) Monday night at Athletic Park in Wausau, Wis.
Madison's offense stole the show in game one, going 11-for-27 (.407) as a unit en route to a decisive 6-0 victory. The finale of the twin bill ended in a 2-1 score in favor of the Mallards, who struck out 13 Woodchucks hitters and allowed just four hits.
The Mallards exploded for a four-run top of the first inning in game one against Wisconsin starter Jared Skolnicki and went on to add two more in the fifth and seventh frames, respectively. Logan Regnier (Central Michigan) went 2-for-3 with a double and walk to lead Madison's offense, while Scott Tyler (Illinois State) and Anthony Gonsolin (St. Mary's College) each tabbed a two-bagger of their own. Andrew Beckwith (Coastal Carolina) received the winning decision on the mound, producing six scoreless innings in which he allowed five hits, dished out one walk and fanned three batters.
Hever Bueno (Arizona State) held his own in game two, logging four innings in which he ceded just one earned run, walked none and struck out seven of 16 batters faced. Regnier and Gonsolin provided runs in the top of the first and third innings, respectively, to catalyze Madison's lineup. The Woodchucks attempted a comeback with a run scored in the home half of the fourth, but Bueno's swinging strikeout of Al Molina ended those hopes. Mike Kaelin (Buffalo) struck out the side in the seventh to record his third save of the summer. His scoreless streak stands at a healthy 14.2 innings.
With their double-header sweep in the books and prolific win streak intact, the Mallards will turn their collective attention toward tomorrow's home game against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from the Duck Pond. Tuesday's evening's contest will feature a Maynard LEGO Giveaway, presented by Zimbrick Honda.
