Lancaster Stormers News Release

It was vintage Butch Hobson.

The Barnstormers manager used five relievers to throw three shutout innings, nailing down a 3-2 victory in the rubber game of a three-game series at Campbell's Field.

Lancaster's bullpen march started in the seventh inning when Kyle Simon relieved Shunsuke Watanabe. The right-hander yielded a ground single over second base to Brandon Chaves, but three failed bunts by Daniel Rockett and a perfect throw to second by Keith Castillo on a steal attempt kept Camden from building a rally.

Nate Reed retired Carlos Guzman leading off the eighth as Jerry Owens made a sliding grab on a sinking liner into left center. Hobson went back to his pen, using Marcus Walden to get the final two outs around a single to center by Paddy Matera.

In the ninth, Bryan Morgado threw one pitch, getting Norberto Susini to ground out to shortstop. Lancaster went to Chad Back, who struck out Michael Rockett and Chaves to close out the night for his third save.

All three Lancaster runs came in the top of the fourth. Brian Cavazos-Galvez beat out a single to the hole at shortstop and moved up as Brandon Jones smacked a single into center. Keith Castillo also singled into center, tying the game at 1-1. Kevin Rivers advanced the runners with a bunt, and Lance Zawadzki produced a 2-1 lead with a sacrifice fly to right. Castillo raced home with the third run as Wes Torrez (3-3) fired a high fastball off Susini's glove for a wild pitch.

Camden had scored in the second when Chaves was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Riversharks cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth off Watanabe (3-2). Daniel Rockett bunted for a single and raced to second as Bryant Nelson's throw skipped past Cavazos-Galvez. Joel Guzman singled into center to score the run. Watanabe quickly worked out of the threat as Carlos Guzman popped to third, and Ryan Strieby rapped into a 6-4-3 double play started when Zawadzki speared his smash into the hole.

Lancaster heads home to play York on Friday evening. The Barnstormers send Dan Osterbrock (3-3) to the hill against lefty Logan Williamson. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com; the I Heart Radio cell phone app or the Barnstormers ustream feed, beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: The Barnstormers have now won four of their last five on the road...Watanabe's ERA dropped to 2.45...The right-hander hit two batters in the game, just the second and third of the season after setting the Barnstormers franchise record with 14 in 2014...Zawadzki had four of Lancaster's seven RBI in the series...Beck faced five batters in the series and struck all of them out.
