
Somerset And Bridgeport Earn Doubleheader Split

(Bridgewater, NJ - June 17, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-31) spilt a single-admission doubleheader with the Somerset Patriots (36-16) at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night, winning game one 3-0 and losing game two 4-3.
In game one, Bluefish starter Matt Iannazzo (2-2) notched the win after tossing five shutout innings, giving up just two hits, walking one and striking out four. Patriots starter R.J. Seidel picked up a no-decision while not allowing a run in four innings, surrendering two hits, striking out six and not walking a batter. Somerset reliever Andrew Carignan (0-2) was tagged with the loss, pitching one inning, giving up three runs on one hit, walking one and striking out one. Patrick Mincey gave up just one hit in the seventh inning to shut the door, notching his team-leading fifth save.
Bridgeport scored all of their runs in the top half of the fifth inning off Carignan and never relinquished the lead. Ethan Chapman drew a bases loaded walk, bringing home James Simmons with the first run of the ballgame. Frazier Hall followed with an RBI groundout, scoring Luis Rodriguez. John Alonso finished the rally with another free pass with the bases loaded with 'Fish, scoring Matt Wessinger. Welington Dotel, Alonso,Simmons, and Hall each had one of the four total hits in the game for Bridgeport.
In game two, Bridgeport starter D.J. Mitchell did not factor in the decision after allowing three runs and eight hits over six innings, walking two and striking out five. Somerset starter Lucas Irvine also picked up a no-decision in giving up one run on six hits in five and one-third innings of work, walking two and striking out four.
Somerset took the 1-0 lead off Mitchell in the bottom of the second inning on a two-out run-scoring single by Scott Kelly, scoring David Vidal. The 'Fish answered right back in the top of the third off Irvine on an RBI groundout by Welington Dotel, plating Ethan Chapman who tripled to lead off the frame for Bridgeport. Trailing 3-1 in their final turn at bat, the Bluefish were able to fight back and tie the game at three with a two-out rally off Patriots closer Jon Hunton. The lead was short-lived as Somerset won the nightcap in their final turn at bat off Bluefish reliever Sam Gervacio (2-4) on a two-out, walk-off single to center field by David Vidal, scoring Scott Cousins who reached via a walk earlier in the inning. Gervacio pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run on two hits, walking one and striking out one. Despite blowing the save in the top half of the inning, Hunton (1-1) was credited with the victory, tossing one inning, surrendering two runs on two hits, striking out two and not allowing a walk. Jake Luce, John Alonso, and Chapman led the way offensively for the 'Fish in game two with a pair of hits each.
The series finale in the four-game set is Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday, June 23rd, when they welcome in the Camden Riversharks to begin a brief three-game homestand in the Park City. Fans in attendance will receive a Magic City Collector's pin. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
