Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgewater, NJ - June 18, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-32) were defeated by the Somerset Patriots (37-16) 4-0 in the final game of a four-game set at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday night. Somerset took three of four games from the 'Fish in a battle of Liberty Division foes.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Cory Riordan (2-2) suffered the loss, pitching six and one-third innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, walking two and striking out two. Somerset Starting Pitcher Randy Boone (3-1) tossed a complete game shutout, giving up just four hits (all singles), striking out five and not walking a batter. It was Boone's second complete game of the season, both against the Bluefish. All three of Boone's victories in 2015 have also come at the hands of the 'Fish. The Patriots pitching staff issued just six walks in 32 innings pitched in the series, recording two complete games and allowing a total of seven runs.

Somerset scored three runs in the bottom half of the second inning off Riordan and never looked back. With one out, Robert Andino belted a two-run double to center field, scoring Michael Burgess and Mat Gamel to give the Patriots a 2-0 edge. A sacrifice fly by James Skelton plated Andino later on in the inning to make it 3-0 in favor of the home team. The Patriots would add an insurance run in the seventh inning off Bridgeport reliever Eric Niesen on a one-out run-scoring double by Skelton, scoring Nate Spears who also registered a two-base hit right in front of Skelton. That was more than enough for Boone, who needed just 86 pitches thrown in going the distance (63 strikes). Infielder Luis Rodriguez led the way for Bridgeport with two hits.

Bridgeport's eight game road trip now takes them to the Empire State where they will be welcomed into Bethpage Ballpark to take on their cross-sound rival Long Island Ducks for a four-game Father's Day weekend wraparound series in Central Islip beginning tomorrow night as the 2015 Ferry Cup Series continues.
