Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - The Salem Red Sox scored multiple runs in three of their last four at bats to defeat the Frederick Keys 7-4 on Thursday night at Nymeo Field. All seven runs were pinned on the bullpen, which has now allowed 17 runs (15 earned) over eight innings in the last two days. Playing on a Major League rehab, Jimmy Paredes finished 3-for-4 with a double an RBI and two runs scored.

With the game tied at four, the visitors scored three times in the eighth thanks to one swing. Max Schuh walked Ben Moore to start the inning, before Deiner Lopez singled two batters later. Yoan Moncada then walked prompting a pitching change. Jimmy Yacabonis took Schuh's place and retired Mauricio Duban on a lineout, but Andrew Benintendi cleared the bases with a double to left-center to put Salem on top for good.

Benintendi also helped the Sox pull even in the seventh. With runners at the corners, the Salem's three-hole batter drove home Moncada, before a second base hit by Longhi leveled the game at four. On the night, Benintendi went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, while he drove in seven over the final two games of the series.

Schuh (0-2) was tagged with the loss, surrendering three runs on two walks and a hit in an inning-plus.

Due to the bullpen struggles, Mitch Horacek received a no-decision, despite tossing five shutout innings while scattering five hits. By the time he exited, the Keys had built a 3-0 lead. In the home-first, Aderlin Rodriguez brought home Tad Gold, who walked to open the contest and reached third on a Paredes two-bagger. Paredes then scored in the second on a Rodriguez double, before coming home on a wild pitch in the fifth.

Salem added two unearned runs in the sixth. Following an Erick Salcedo error, Danny Mars tripled home Rafael Devers, before Mars scored on a passed ball. Paredes helped the Keys recover one of those runs via an RBI single that scored Gold from second.

Austin Maddox (1-0) picked up the win for Salem, tossing two clean innings of hitless baseball. He added three strikeouts as well. Jake Drehoff pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

The Keys kickoff a three-game series with the Winston-Salem Dash on Friday at Nymeo Field. Right-hander Lucas Long (0-1, 1.80) gets the ball for Frederick, while righty Matt Cooper (1-1, 3.85) gets the ball for the Dash. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com. It is Cat in the Hat Night at the Park complete with an appearance by the Cat in the Hat and other Dr. Seuss characters. Following the game there will be fireworks presented by Frederick Magazine.
