World Series Trophy Coming to Frawley Stadium May 20 and 21
April 28, 2016 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks are pleased to announce that the Kansas City Royals will bring their 2015 World Series trophy to Frawley Stadium on May 20 and 21. Fans will have the opportunity to get an up-close look at, and take pictures of, baseball's biggest prize before and during Wilmington's 7:05 p.m. games against the Carolina Mudcats.
Eleven former Blue Rock players helped earn the Royals their first world title since 1985. Salvador Perez (2010) earned World Series MVP honors, while Jarrod Dyson (2008 and 2010) scored the series-clinching run and Eric Hosmer (2009-2010) drove in six runs in six games. Mike Moustakas (2009) batted .304 and added three RBI in the Fall Classic while Christian Colon (2009) and Paulo Orlando (2008-2009) each chipped in with a hit. Raul Mondesi (2014) became the first player ever to make his Major League debut in the World Series and Terrance Gore (2014) was a key base-running contributor during the postseason run.
On the mound, Kelvin Herrera (2011) did not allow an earned run over five innings during three World Series appearances out of the bullpen. Danny Duffy (2009, 2010) also contributed to the Royals lethal relief corps, yielding just one score over 2.1 frames. Yordano Ventura (2012) started Game Three for the Royals.
The May visit will mark the third time the World Series trophy has made its way to Frawley Stadium. It came to Wilmington in 2005, when the Rocks were affiliated with the Boston Red Sox, who had just won that franchise's first title since 1918, and then again in 2009, after the local Major League club, the Phillies, celebrated their second world championship in franchise history.
Details about picture availability and much more will be released via the club's social media outlets in the near future. Fans can follow the Blue Rocks via Twitter (@wilmbluerocks), on Facebook (Wilmington Blue Rocks) and Instagram (@wilmbluerocks).
Tickets are available to the Blue Rocks games on May 20 and 21, as well as any other 2016 contest, by calling 302-888-BLUE or online at BlueRocks.com.
