Bullfrogs Running Wild in 2015 Season
July 13, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- The Green Bay Bullfrogs lead the Northwoods League in stolen bases by a wide margin and are on pace for the most steals in the 22-year history of the league.
The Bullfrogs have swiped 127 bags this year, 48 more than the La Crosse Loggers, who are second in steals. Green Bay has already set a new team record, and the Bullfrogs are on pace for 194, which would break the Waterloo Bucks' single-season mark of 192 set in 1996.
A big reason Green Bay has itself in position to accomplish that feat is outfielder Caleb Ratzman, who has been used as a pinch-running specialist recently, often entering late in games to steal a base or two.
In addition to a .304 batting average and 25 runs scored, Ratzman's 31 stolen bases lead the league, nine more than Willmar Stingers' outfielder Sean Beesley, who is second in steals. Ratzman is also on pace for setting a new individual league record for steals in a single season.
If Ratzman continues on his current pace, he will finish the year with 47 stolen bases, breaking the record of 45 set by former Bullfrog Daniel Robertson and Duluth Huskies' Joey Bonadonna in 2007.
Ratzman is one of four Bullfrogs in the top seven in the league in steals including Logan Taylor, who has 17, and Paul Jacobson and Ty Blankmeyer each have 14 stolen bases this season. Seven players on Green Bay's active roster have at least eight steals.
Green Bay is in the midst of a six-game road trip and will play the Duluth Huskies on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. The Bullfrogs return to Joannes Stadium on July 18 for a two-game series with the Kenosha Kingfish before the All-Star break.
Single game tickets are on sale now. Visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com to purchase tickets. The Bullfrogs' business hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
