July 13, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - Following a dramatic come-from-behind, extra-inning victory over the Battle Creek Bombers Sunday night at the Duck Pond, the Madison Mallards (7-4, 27-19) will turn their attention toward Monday's key double-header with the La Crosse Loggers (7-5, 26-20). Game one of the twin-bill is scheduled for 11:35 a.m. at Warner Park; the second for 7:05 p.m. Fans interested in attending both games will be required to purchase two separate tickets.
Logan Browning (Florida) will receive his first start of the 2015 season in the opener of tomorrow's double-header with the Loggers. Browning, a 5-foot-7 dual-threat left-handed pitcher and outfielder from Lakeland, Fla, brings to today's opener a 1.42 ERA across three bullpen appearances (6.1) for the Mallards with five strikeouts and two walks. Browning's freshman collegiate campaign yielded six strikeouts across 8.2 total innings with the University of Florida.
The nightcap of tonight's double-dip will see Westin Wuethrich (Madison College) tab his sixth start of the summer. Wuethrich, a 6-foot-2 native of Greenwood, Wis., enters Monday having allowed one unearned run with four strikeouts across five innings July 7 against Willmar - a performance for which he received a winning decision. Overall, Wuethrich sports a 2-1 record, 2.21 ERA, 18:10 strikeout-to-walk ratio and .211 opponent average across 24.1 frames this summer.
To counter, the Loggers will assign right-handed pitcher Jack Ralston (UCLA) to start the first game of tomorrow's double-header. Ralston, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound righty coming off his freshman collegiate campaign, is 1-0 with a 3.37 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 19:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 18.2 innings between La Crosse's rotation and bullpen this season. Ralston received a winning decision for his July 7 effort against the Kalamazoo Growlers, fanning six batters and allowing one run in 6.1 innings of work. The Loggers have not announced a starting pitcher for Monday's nightcap.
The first game of Sunday's double-header will be St. Mary's Senior Day, featuring a pre-game walk around the warning track and an appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog presented by Wisconsin Public Television. The nightcap will be St. Mary's Senior Night, featuring another pre-game walk around the warning track.
