July 13, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mallards are proud to announce that five current players have been selected as 2015 Northwoods League All-Stars. Each will represent the Mallards for the South Division roster in next Tuesday's midsummer classic at historic Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., which is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Right-handed pitchers Mike Kaelin (Buffalo) and Vince Arobio (Pacific) will don green and yellow as pitchers for the south in the All-Star affair, while outfielders Anthony Gonsolin (St. Mary's College) and Logan Regnier (Central Michigan) and catcher/corner infielder Jean Ramirez (Illinois State) will contribute as position players.
Kaelin, a 5-foot-9 right-handed pitcher from Cheektowaga, N.Y., enters next Tuesday's contest as one of the most dominant late-inning relievers in the Northwoods League. Across 17 games (24 IP), Kaelin holds true to a 1.50 ERA with six saves, including 37 strikeouts - most of any full-time reliever. Kaelin began his first summer collegiate season with an impressive 15.2 inning scoreless streak, during which he allowed just six hits to opposing lineups.
Arobio, a 5-foot-11 right-handed pitcher originally from Burlingame, Calif., receives his All-Star selection in the midst of a 2015 campaign in which he has mustered a 3.80 ERA and 29:13 strikeout-to-walk ratio while tallying three saves (23.2 IP) for Madison's bullpen. Arobio manufactured a scoreless streak of 11 consecutive games for the Mallards, beginning on June 8 and ending more than a month later on July 10. Overall, opponents have batted just .202 against him.
Gonsolin, a 6-foot-2 outfielder from Vacaville, Calif., will suit up for the South Division during one of the most dynamic seasons of any hitter in summer collegiate baseball. Across 41 total games, Gonsolin leads the Northwoods League in home runs (11) and ranks among the league's top ten marks in batting average (.331) and runs batted in (31). Additionally, he became the first hitter in the league with double-digit totals in home runs (10) and stolen bases (11).
Regnier, a 6-foot-2 outfielder with roots to Novi, Mich., earns his inclusion to the South Division lineup amid a 2015 season in which he has batted .325 with an on-base percentage of .392 from the top of field manager Donnie Scott's lineup. A returner from Madison's 2014 roster, Regnier has reached base safely in 36 of 39 games in which he has started this summer, propelling him to 23 runs scored - second most of any Mallards hitter - to this juncture.
Ramirez, a 6-foot-0, 213-pound catcher/corner infielder from Ft. Worth, Tex., tabs his first summer collegiate All-Star selection for his sterling production at the plate - and behind it. With the lumber, Ramirez has posted a .306 batting average, .396 on-base percentage and 14 extra-base hits across his first 144 at-bats of the 2015 season. Behind the plate, the Illinois State product has thrown out five would-be base-stealers and posted a fielding percentage of .983.
