Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs' streaks of five consecutive wins and 12 games with a point were both snapped on Monday night as they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Crunch at Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter in Syracuse. The loss drops the Bulldogs record to 33-19-2-2 on the season.
Andrei Kostitsyn opened the scoring for the Bulldogs at 1:31 of the first period. Kostitsyn's goal, assisted by Matt D'Agostini and Mikhail Grabovski, extended his point streak to 11-games.
The Crunch then scored three consecutive goals in the remainder of the opening frame to take a 3-1 lead. Joakim Lindstrom (4:32), Zenon Konopka on a power play (11:06) and Geoff Platt (19:19) were the goal scorers in the period for Syracuse.
Lindstrom increased Syracuse's lead to 4-1 at 14:36 of the middle stanza with his second tally of the night. Hamilton's starting goaltender Yann Danis was injured on the play and was replaced by rookie netminder Cedrick Desjardins who made his AHL debut.
With the Bulldogs on a five-minute power play in the third period, the teams exchanged special teams goals. Corey Locke scored his first of two goals in the frame at the 1:24 mark. Curtis Glencross then scored a short-handed goal just 41 seconds later to put the Crunch up 5-2.
Locke then rounded out the scoring with his 17th goal of the season to make the score 5-3. Kostitsyn added an assist on the goal and now has 20 points (9-11-20) in his last 11 games.
Danis, who suffered the loss, made 14 saves on 18 shots before he was injured and replaced in net by Desjardins at 14:36 of the second period. Turning aside 11 of the 12 shots he faced, Desjardins was near perfect in his first-career AHL action. Ty Conklin went the distance between the pipes for the Crunch and stopped 28 of 31 shots while earning his third win of the season.
