Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Rochester Americans 4-1 on Wednesday night in front of 5,510 fans at Copps Coliseum. The win puts Hamilton in first place in the North Division.
Hamilton opened the scoring at the five minute-mark of the opening period. Bulldogs defenceman Andre Benoit dished a pass to Mikael Johansson who carried the puck into the Rochester zone. While skating down the left side, Johansson fed a pass to J.T. Wyman who was stationed in front of the net. Wyman then fired a shot past Rochester starting goaltender Ryan Mior. The âDogs added their second goal at 14:41 while on the power play. Wyman sent a blind backhand pass to Mathieu Darche, who rifled a shot over the blocker of Mior and into the top left corner of the net.
The Amerks cut the lead to one at 5:46 of the middle stanza while on the power play. Chris Taylor received a pass from Evgeny Dadonov before sending the puck towards the net. The puck bounced off the leg of a Hamilton player and past Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.
The Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead at 13:57 of the second stanza with a shorthanded marker. Yannick Weber fed a long stretch pass up the right side to send Brock Trotter in on a breakaway. Trotter used a forehand to backhand move before depositing the puck behind Mior.
Johansson gave Hamilton a 4-1 lead at 11:26 of the final frame. Tom Pyatt sent a pass back to the left point, where Weber was positioned. Weber blasted a shot that was redirected by Johansson through the legs of Mior.
