Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONT. - Hamilton Bulldogs President Steve Staios announced today that Matt Nichol has been named as the club's Director of Sport Science.
"Matt was the biggest factor to my success and longevity in the NHL. He brings an incredible amount of knowledge and experience to the Bulldogs", said Staios. "For me to be able to have Matt Nichol as part of this team is a great indicator to our players, staff and community that we are striving to be best in class in all areas of our organization".
Nichol has over 17 years of experience teaching and coaching elite athletes from the NHL, NFL, NBA and Athletics Canada in the fields of strength and conditioning and nutrition. From 2002-2009, Nichol served as the Toronto Maple Leafs' (NHL) Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and in 2004 held the same role with Team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey. Nichol earned his Bachelor of Concurrent Education from McGill University in Montreal and his Masters in Kinesiology from York University in Toronto. Nichol was a member of the McGill Redmen and York Yeoman football teams and was recognized as a Canadian University All-Star.
"Steve Staios and Michael Andlauer both have a tremendous work ethic and a commitment to excellence in all that they do. They are passionate about the Hamilton Bulldogs and passionate about doing whatever is necessary to make this franchise elite in every aspect of the operation", said Nichol. "I'm honoured to be able to contribute to that in some small way".
Nichol's passion for health, nutrition and training led him to found BioSteel, a sports supplement company that produces high caliber sports nutrition products for elite and amateur athletes. BioSteel's clientele and brand ambassadors include current NHL players and OHL alumni Connor McDavid and Tyler Seguin as well as several high profile NBA and NFL players.
