(Guelph, ON) - Michael Giugovaz made 27 saves and the Spits broke a scoreless tie with three quick goals in the second period, in an eventual 4-0 win over the Storm at the Sleeman Centre Sunday.
Windsor (12-4-3-0) dominated the opening 20 minutes, but couldn't solve Justin Nichols (34 saves) with any of its 17 shots.
Logan Stanley's first Ontario Hockey League goal, at 10:13 of the second period, was the eventual winner and goals by Cristiano DiGiacinto (8, 12:38) and Aaron Luchuk (11, 15:47) put the Spits well on their way to a third win over Guelph in three tries on the season.
Jalen Chatfield rounded out the scoring with his fifth at 10:26 of the third period, giving Giugovaz all the backing he needed in his first Ontario Hockey League shutout.
Logan Brown chipped in a pair of assists - giving him a team-high 16 in just 13 games played.
The Spits move into the season's eighth week with 27 points, good for first in the West Division and second in the Western Conference.
Next up for the club is a trip to Mississauga on Friday night, before a home date back at the WFCU Centre versus Sault Ste Marie.
