Bulldogs Edged By Senators

BINGHAMTON, NY -- Denis Hamel scored his second goal of the game with just 5:08 remaining in the third period to break a tie and give the Binghamton Senators a 4-3 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday night. The Bulldogs record now falls to one win and three losses on the season.

Despite the loss, Bulldogs captain Benoit Gratton scored two goals for the second consecutive game. Tomas Plekanec earned the Bulldogs other goal, his second of the season.

Scoring for the Senators were Denis Hamel (2), Christoph Schubert, and former Bulldogsâ tough guy Dennis Bonvie.

In goal, Bulldogs goaltender Jean-Francois Damphousse made 30 saves. Billy Thompson earned his first win of the season for Senators as he stopped 27 of 30 shots.

On special teams the Bulldogs were 0 for 2 with the man-advantage. Binghamton went scoreless on four power play opportunities.

Notes: Defenceman Mike Komisarek and left-winger Gordie Dwyer played in their first game with the Bulldogs since being assigned to Hamilton by the NHLâs Montreal Canadiens on Thursday. Komisarek contributed with an assist on Grattonâs second goal of the game.

Player/ Assistant Coach Jody Hull earned an assist in his first game of the season for the Senators. Hull becomes the only player to play for three generations of Binghamton AHL teams ö Senators, Rangers and Whalers.

The Bulldogs next action will take place on Sunday, October 19th at 4:00 p.m. as Hamilton will host former Bulldogs goaltender Marc Lamothe and the Grand Rapids Griffins (affiliate of Detroit Red Wings) at Copps Coliseum.
