Capitals Recall Yonkman

Washington, DC - The Washington Capitals, the National Hockey League affiliate of the Portland Pirates, on Friday recalled defenseman Nolan Yonkman from the Pirates, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced.

Yonkman, 22, has appeared in all three games for the Pirates this season, registering no points while recording two penalty minutes and posting a plus-1 plus/minus rating.

The native of Punnichy, Saskatchewan last season scored a goal and four assists in 24 games with the Pirates, missing 56 games due to three separate injuries.

Yonkman last played for the Capitals in 2001-02, when he made his NHL debut and played 11 games, scoring one goal and collecting four minutes in penalties.

The 6'6", 245-lb. Yonkman was drafted by the Capitals in the second round, 37th overall, in the 1999 Entry Draft.

The Pirates play their first home game of the 2003-2004 season tonight when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:05 p.m. The Pirates invite all fans to attend a pre-game block party at Brian Boru, Margaritas and Rivalries for food and drink specials and prize giveaways. The Pirates will be back on the ice on Saturday night when they host the Manchester Monarchs at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,500 fans through the turnstiles will receive a free Pirates' magnetic schedule from Paul G. White Tile Company. Tickets for these and all Pirates' home games are on sale now at the Cumberland County Civic Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets.
