Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. The Hamilton Bulldogs opened a weekend road trip to the east, visiting the Kingston Frontenacs at Leon's Centre for the first time this season.
Avery Hayes gave the Bulldogs the start they wanted, taking an errant deflection just to the left of the slot hitting back glass with his initial shot but as the puck come off the glass and over the top of the Kingston goal, Hayes showed incredible hand-eye coordination batting the puck past Leevi Merilainen for his 12th goal of the year at 6:33 with assists given to Ryan Humphrey & Lucas Moore. Kingston wouldn't take long respond however, at 6:57 with Lucas Edmonds tipping a Braden Hache point shot past Marco Costantini for his 14th of the year. With Costantini stopping 9 of the 10 shots he faced in the frame the Bulldogs headed to the locker room all knotted up with the Fronts 1-1.
The second period turned sour for the Bulldogs, after killing off 1:07 of a 5-on-3 early in the period, Lucas Edmonds knocked the stick away from Jonathan Melee freeing himself in space for a one-time goal at 1:40 giving Kingston a 2-1 lead. Paul Ludwinski extended the lead at 13:07 taking a feed from Martin Chromiak in the slot and firing a shot past Costantini to give Kingston a 3-1 advantage. Before the period was out Maddox Callens rushed the left wing side attacking Gavin White and firing a shot that appeared to tick off his stick and under Costantini's arm at 16:33 making it a 4-1 Fronts lead. Costantini did provide some hope for his team though, robbing Matthew Soto on a late period breakaway, giving the Bulldogs the chance to climb back in the game in the 3rd period.
The third period became a wild west style shootout, with Matteo Drobac opening the period in goal for the Bulldogs. Hamilton got themselves back in the game through Logan Morrison with a slick set of moves to the front of the Frontenacs goal on the backhand, his 8th of the year from Humphrey & Romeo to cut the game to 4-2. After Navrin Mutter & Nathan Staios were ejected and Kingston on the power-play the 3 goal lead was restored through a Jordan Frasca tip at 9:54. Cue the comeback, Jan Mysak recorded his 17th on the power-play with a slot one-timer from Diaco & White at 10:36 to make it 5-3. Jorian Donovan recorded his 2nd of the year knocking a puck through Merilainen at 16:12 from Hayes & Morrison and followed it up scoring his 2nd of the night and 3rd of the season on another goalmouth scramble at 17:36 from Sherk & Duarte tying the game at 5-5. The comeback would fall just short however as Francesco Arcuri would score on a late goalmouth scramble for Kingston at 18:11 just nosing the Fronts ahead for a 6-5 win.
The Hamilton Bulldogs return to action closing out their 2-game eastern road trip visiting the Ottawa 67s at TD Arena on Saturday, December 11th at 2:00pm.
