April 15, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

(Buffalo, NY) - Four Buffalo pitchers combined to shut out Pawtucket for 14 innings over two games and the Bisons swept a doubleheader from the PawSox by identical scores of 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field. Veteran lefties Jeff Francis and Andrew Albers each had a dominating start to pace the Buffalo pitching staff, which held the Pawtucket offense without a run for the final 19 innings of the series.

Second-baseman Ryan Goins' two-run single against PawSox starter Brian Johnson (1-1) in the second inning of game one provided the only offense in the opener. Right-fielder Brad Glenn's two-out, two-run double in the first inning of the nightcap came against Keith Couch (1-1) and plated the only tallies in game two.

The PawSox (4-3) did not have a single runner reach third base in the doubleheader, as Buffalo (3-3) pitching allowed just six total hits and three total walks in 14 innings. Francis (1-0) tossed five frames in to win the opener, giving up two hits in his Bisons debut.

He was replaced by Bo Schultz in the sixth, who retired all six batters he faced to earn his first save of the season. Johnson struck out seven batters over four innings in a losing effort for Pawtucket, and only one of the two runs he allowed was earned.

Albers (1-1) worked six full innings for Buffalo in game two and permitted four hits and one walk while striking out five. Bobby Korecky tossed a 1-2-3 seventh inning to earn his second save and finish the doubleheader sweep. The Bisons won the three-game series 2-games-to-1.

Couch lasted 5.1 innings for the PawSox and gave up two runs and six hits. Jackie Bradley, Jr. went 2-for-3 with a double and was the only Pawtucket hitter to collect multiple hits for the day.

Thursday night is the home opener at McCoy Stadium as the PawSox host Rochester at 7:05 pm. Knuckleballer Steven Wright (NR) is expected to start for the PawSox while the Red Wings counter with lefty Taylor Rogers (0-0, 0.00).

The game will be televised by NESN, and radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm. Good seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
