INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Louisville took the first game of a five-game split series with Indianapolis 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field. The one-run margin is the third straight one-run game for the Bats and fourth overall. They are now 2-2 on the season in one-run games.

On the bump right-hander Dylan Axelrod (1-1, 1.38 ERA) was terrific pitching seven innings of two hit baseball, allowing one earned run, walking one and striking out four picking up his first win on the young season. He has now pitched seven-plus innings in six of his eight starts with the Bats since coming over on July 16 last year.

Indianapolis scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning getting two hits and sac fly to take the lead, 1-0. Those two hits were all the Indians got on the afternoon as Axelrod retired 18 of the last 19 he faced.

Matching Axelrod pitch for pitch was Pirates prospect right-hander Adrian Sampson (0-2, 4.35). He pitched five and one-third innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits, walked two and struck out seven Louisville Bat hitters.

The Bats were able to tie the game off Sampson in the fourth inning as catcher Tucker Barnhart singled to center scoring center fielder Yorman Rodriguez.

Again in the 6th inning Barnhart was at the plate and was able to extend the inning with a single on the tenth pitch of the at-bat to move the line along for Irving Falu. Falu lifted a ball to right field deep enough to score the go ahead run, Chris Dominguez, which ended up being the winning run for the Bats. Barnhart now has back-to-back multi-hit games as he finished 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Also on the offensive side for the Bats infielder Ivan De Jesus extended his hitting streak to six games and on-base streak to 12 dating back to last season with another two hit performance, his third of the season. His three multi-hit games lead the club on the young season.

Louisville and Indianapolis will meet again tomorrow at Victory Field; a 7:05 p.m. start, for the second of three in Indy before coming back to Louisville to finish the five-game split series. Right-hander Michael Lorenzen (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the ball for the Bats and will face off against right-hander Chris Volstad (1-0, 0.00 ERA) for the Indians.
