Daniel Norris had his best start in what has been a difficult 2016 season.

The 23-year-old fanned a season-high eight Bisons as the Mud Hens cruised to an 8-0 win at Fifth Third Field on Friday.

The former Bison faced the minimum through three innings and spread out four hits and a walk across six scoreless frames. The effort was enough to lower the lefty's ERA from 6.91 to 5.67.

For the second consecutive start, Scott Diamond was charged with five runs and a loss. The lefty struck out two and walked a pair before exiting after a three-run Hens' half of the fifth. Following a hitless first, Diamond allowed the leadoff batter to reach base in each of the next four frames, including a homerun to Tyler Collins to start the second.

Buffalo's starter gave up another run in the fourth as Casey McGehee doubled in Chad Huffman.

Toledo then used five singles and a fielder's choice groundout to plate a trio of runs an inning later.

The Mud Hens continued their offensive outburst against Pat McCoy in the sixth. A two-run blast from John Hicks was followed up by a double from Argenis Diaz, who later made his way home on a deep sac fly off of the bat of Wynton Bernard.

The highlight of Buffalo's night came with two Hens aboard in the bottom of the fourth.

David Adams backhanded a hard grounder as he stepped on the third-base bag, side-armed a throw to Andy Burns at second who rifled a throw to Matt Dominguez at first to complete a perfectly executed 5-4-3 triple play.

BISONS NOTES:

The fourth-inning triple play was the first turned by the Bisons since June 1 of last season against Indianapolis...Jesus Montero's single in the fourth extends his hit streak to seven games...Blue Jay Aaron Loup faced three batters as part of his rehab. The reliever punched out one and allowed one hit...Scott Diamond's start was long enough to move him ahead of teammate Wade LeBlanc and into first in the International League with 59.2 innings pitched.
