SWB Game Notes

May 27, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders dropped a Thursday-night rubber match to the Louisville Bats, 5-0. The Bats (24-22) claimed the series at PNC Field, but the RailRiders won the regular-season series with Louisville, 4-3.

GETTING DEFENSIVE: After a third-straight error-free game, the RailRiders' error total remains at a slim 29, the IL's second-lowest total behind only Toledo (27). SWB's .983 fielding percentage ranks second in the circuit, but its seven passed balls make for the highest total in the loop. The RailRiders have seen their foes steal just 22 bases on 32 attempts. Both numbers are trumped only by Lehigh Valley at league-low marks of 20 and 29.

I'M JUST A CAVE MAN: Over his 14 games with SWB this season Jake Cave has gone 18-for-55 with 10 extra-base hits, eight RBIs and 12 runs scored, slashing .327/.339/.636/.976. He has played either center or left field in each game and has yet to make an error with SWB. Including his time at the start of this season with Double-A Trenton, Cave has clubbed six triples to tie him for fourth in all of MiLB. Advanced-A Tampa's Jorge Mateo co-leads the minors with eight three-baggers. Former RailRider Rob Segedin, now with the Dodgers' Triple-A team in Oklahoma City, also has six triples.

PARM CHARM: Chris Parmelee bashed the team's lone extra-base hit last night, a deep double to right-center. He started the season in a 2-for-26 (.077) funk, both singles, with 10 strikeouts and just one RBI. Since then he has hit .288 (30-for-104) with six homers and 17 RBIs over 29 games. Half of the homers and eight of his RBIs came over five games played against Louisville. Parmelee spent most of last season with Norfolk, slashing .314/.386/.444/.830 over 63 games. He hit just one of his six home runs at Harbor Park where he slashed .255/.328/.324/.651 compared to .358/.429/.533/.962 on the road as a Tide.

INHERITANCE TAX: Mark Montgomery tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball, but saw an inherited runner cross the plate for the first time this season. He had stranded each of his first five hand-me-down men with SWB in 2016. Over his 7.2 innings as a RailRider this year he has allowed just one run while striking out nine and walking none. The IL has hit a slim .154 against him.

DOUBLE-DIGIT HITS: Starter Tyler Olson (1-2) gave up 10 hits over his 4.2 innings, tying for the second-highest total allowed in a game on his career. He gave up 11 hits with Rookie Everett in his first season of pro ball on July 3, 2013 at Vancouver. That was his fourth-ever pro appearance. The 10 hits allowed by Olson tied a season-high mark for an SWB hurler. The recently-called-up Richard Bleier allowed 10 hits at Louisville on May 16 and Anthony Swarzak gave up 10 knocks versus Buffalo on April 20.

KINGS OF THE NORTH: The defending division champion RailRiders entered today in sole possession of first place in the North, tied in the loss column with Rochester, Lehigh Valley and Syracuse. Al Pedrique's team outright leads the IL in wins and has won 10 of its last 14.
