Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (25-22) dropped a 6-4 heartbreaker in 11 innings to the Louisville Bats (25-22) on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park.
In the top of the 11th, a pair of doubles put runners at second and third with one out before Raffy Lopez came through with a two-run single to give the Bats a 6-4 lead.
RHP Michael Mariot (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K) was tagged with the loss for the Pigs and drops to 0-1 on the year.
RHP Matt Magill (2.0 IP, BB, 3 K) earned the win for the Bats to improve his record to 1-0 on the year. RHP Jumbo Diaz (1.0 IP, K) tossed a scoreless bottom of the 11th to notch his fifth save of the year.
Louisville took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third as Juan Perez plated a run with a two-out RBI double and Jose Peraza came through with an RBI single.
Trailing 2-0, the Pigs had runners at second and third with one out in the sixth, but Bats starter Robert Stephenson was able to get J.P. Crawford and Cody Asche to ground out to first and end the inning.
Darin Ruf's solo shot in the bottom of the seventh off of Stephenson brought the IronPigs within 2-1. The home run was Ruf's fifth of the season.
In his Triple-A debut, Pigs starter Ben Lively (n/d) gave up two runs on five hits while walking one and fanning five in seven innings of work.
Jermaine Curtis' two-run shot off of RHP Luis Garcia (0.1 IP, 2 H, R, ER, K) in the top of the eighth opened up a 4-1 lead for Louisville. The other run in the frame was charged to LHP Bobby LaFromboise (0.2 IP, 2 H, R, ER).
In the home half of the frame, the Pigs tied things at four apiece with a three-run eighth. All three runs came with two outs as Asche knocked home a run with an RBI double, Nick Williams delivered an RBI single and Ruf (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R) tied the game with an RBI single of his own.
Stephenson (n/d) allowed the four runs on five hits to go along with three walks and five strikeouts in 7.2 IP.
RHP Edward Mujica (1.0 IP, H) had a scoreless outing in relief for Lehigh Valley.
In the top of the 10th with a runner at first and two outs, Asche made a leaping catch on the warning track to rob Curtis of extra bases on the play.
The series continues on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. as LHP James Russell (1-0, 0.68) will be on the bump for the Pigs against Bats RHP Keyvius Sampson (1-1, 2.66).
