Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Des Moines Buccaneers trading goals with Team USA all night but in the end skated off with a 6-4 victory to pick up their 6th victory in the last 7 games.
Des Moines wasted little time getting on the board as Patrick Grasso slipped a pass to Chandler Lindstrand who crept down below the left circle at 3:33 to score his second goal on the season between the pads of goaltender Dylan St. Cyr. The lead didn't last as Nate Knoepke scored from just inside the left circle six minutes later but Georgy Gorodetsky gave the Bucs a 2-1 lead going into the locker room when he finished off a loose puck to the left of St. Cyr on a tight-angle shot from point-blank range.
Just 48 seconds into the second period Kenny Hausinger scored his team-leading 5th power play goal from Rauhauser and Grasso to give Des Moines a 3-1 lead. Two goals by Team USA in the period by Sean Dhooghe with the man advantage and Scott Reedy even strength tied up the game under five minutes into the period and it looked as if the two squads may finish the period tied before an outburst by Des Moines tilted the ice. Zach Jordan finished off the third straight Buccaneer chance out front of the crease at the 16:58 mark and then Justin Howell scored on a 2-on-1 with David Keefer to his left at the 17:52 mark. With the crowd already roaring Nikita Pavlychev slammed home a bouncing puck at 19:20 to give the Buccaneers all the momentum into the second intermission.
Team USA was able to get one past Nick MacNab in the third as Grant Mismash scored a power play goal, Team USA's second in as many opportunities, but that was the only one they could muster in the period. Des Moines fired 11 shots on Adam Scheel in the third period, who relieved St. Cyr at the second intermission, and Scheel made all 11 saves keeping his team in it but was unable to change the outcome of the game. MacNab picked up the victory with 24 saves on 28 shots on goal and the Buccaneers improved their record to 14-14-2.
Up next for Des Moines is the defending Clark Cup Champion Sioux Falls Stampede at Buccaneer Arena on Saturday, January 9th, with a puck drop of 7:05 pm. The Bucs will go for a season high 4th win in a row and 5th straight home victory on Frozen Night; for tickets call 278-2827.
