Bruno Sanchez Named New York Penn League Pitcher of the Week

Aberdeen, MD - The New York Penn League announced on Monday night that Aberdeen IronBirds starting pitcher, Bruno Sanchez was named the league's pitcher of the week.

Sanchez had two starts this week and went a combined 2-0 with a 0.00 earned run average while striking out 13 batters in 12 innings pitched. In both of Sanchez's starts this week he threw six shutout innings. On July 12, against the Doubledays he got his first win of the season while striking out six in the IronBirds 8-2 win. Then on July 18, he retired the first 17 batters of the game and struck out seven in an IronBirds 4-0 win.

Overall on the year, Sanchez is now 2-1 with an earned run average of 3.68. He has struck out 21 and walked nine in 22 innings of work. Sanchez has held opponents scoreless in five of his seven appearances this season.

The Orioles originally signed Sanchez as minor league free agent in 2009 and he is now in his second season with the organization. He began his professional career in 2006 with the Minnesota Twins Dominican Summer League team.
