Tigers Swim Past Lake Monsters 2-1

NORWICH-CF P.J. Polk (2-3) hit an RBI single in the seventh inning to score SS Ryan Soares (1-3) from second base, snap a 1-1 tied score and give the Connecticut Tigers (16-15) a 2-1 win over the Vermont Lake Monsters (21-10) before 1,009 fans at Dodd Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Tigers scored a single run in the first inning. Polk reached base on a single and moved to second base on a throwing error. 2B Alexander Nunez (0-3) laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved Polk to third base. 3B Matt Perry (1-4) hit an RBI single to score Polk for a 1-0 Tigers lead.

The Lake Monsters scored a run in the third inning. SS Jason Martinson (1-2) singled and scored on a double by DH David Freitas (2- 4) to tie the game at 1-1.

In the seventh inning, Soares hit a two-out double and scored when Polk lined a single off 2B Blake Kelso's glove.

RHP Miguel Mejia (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings to get the win in his Tigers debut while RHP Tyler White logged two-thirds of an inning to get his first save of the season.

The Tigers and Lake Monsters continue their series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. It's a Wicked Wild Wednesday with four reserved tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and a program all for $40.00. The Lake Monsters send RHP Chris McKenzie (1-0, 6.23) to the mound against RHP Clemente Mendoza (2-3, 5.91) for the Tigers.
