Mahoning Valley Scrappers - Cleveland Indians (12-19) @ State College Spikes - Pittsburgh Pirates (16-15)
Game #32 / Home Game #15 RHP Zack Von Rosenberg (1-4, 4.85) vs. RHP Alex Kaminsky (3-1, 2.37)
-SPIKES START FIVE-GAME HOMESTAND: After a 3-3 road trip to Connecticut and Auburn, the State College Spikes return home to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for five games, and start a three-game set with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers tonight. Although Mahoning Valley leads the all-time series, 21-19, the Spikes are 13-7 facing the Scrappers in State College.
-LAST GAME: A seven-run second inning staked the Spikes to an early 9-0, and State College only built upon it to win, 14-5, last night to take a three-game series from the Auburn Doubledays at Falcon Park. Chase Lyles smashed his fourth homer of the year, a two-run job to left that capped the scoring in the second, as part of a 3-for-4 night. Tyler Waldron threw five shutout innings, striking out five and allowing just one hit to earn his first pro win.
-VON ROSENBERG LOOKS FOR TWO: Right-hander Zack Von Rosenberg gets the ball tonight for the Spikes on the heels of his first professional victory. Von Rosenberg allowed one run on five hits in five innings of work to defeat the Connecticut Tigers on Wednesday for his first professional victory. The Zachary, LA native has a 2.57 ERA in his last three starts after posting a 7.50 mark in his first three.
-SCRAPPERS SEND KAMINSKY TO THE HILL: Right-hander Alex Kaminsky will make his seventh start of the year tonight for Mahoning Valley. Kaminsky was signed by the Indians organization as an undrafted free agent out of Wright State, where he was third in the Horizon League in strikeouts. The Fostoria, OH native has allowed left-handed hitters just a .184 average in the 2010 season.
-STREAKING CURRY EARNS NYPL HONORS: Spikes infielder Matt Curry was named the NYPL Player of the Week for July 12-18. Curry has a 16-game on-base streak, and hit .571 (16-for-28) with 7 runs batted in over the period of time for which he won the award.
