
Broncos Sneak Past T-Birds

Swift Current, SK, November 19, 2008 - The Swift Current Broncos defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 Wednesday night at the Credit Union I-Plex.
This was the last game of a T-Birds seven-game road trip. They finished the road trip with a 3-3-0-1 record. Swift Current took a 1-0 lead at 2:47 of the first period on an unassisted goal by Matt Tassone.
Seattle tied the game at 11:49 of the first just after a power play had ended. Thomas Hickey had the puck at the right point and point and put a slap shot on goal. The puck rebounded to the high slot and Hickey got his own rebound. Hickey, with his back to the Broncos net, put a backhand shot on goal through traffic. The shot beat Swift Current goalie Travis Yonkman just inside the right post. Charles Wells and Jeremy Boyer assisted on Hickey's fifth goal of the season.
The T-Birds outshot the Broncos 15-11 in the first period.
Seattle (9-13-1-2) took a 2-1 lead at 14:39 of the second period on a power-play goal by Prab Rai. Hickey carried the puck into the Broncos zone on the left side. At the top of the left circle Hickey cut to the high slot. He held the puck then made a cross slot to Rai who quickly beat Yonkman on the blocker side. Brenden Dillon had the second assist on Rai's team leading 14th goal of the year.
Seattle outshot Swift Current 11-7 in the second period and led 26-18 in total shots after two periods.
Swift Current (15-10-0-0) tied the game 2-2 on a five- on-three power-play goal by Keegan Dansereau at 11:17 of the third period. Eric Doyle and Spencer McAvoy had the assists.
Dansereau scored a second five-on-three power-play goal at 12:37 of the third to put the Broncos in front 3- 2. Doyle and Tassone had the assists.
The T-Birds outshot the Broncos 9-7 in the third period and 35-25 in the game.
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 22 of 25 shots and his record is now 6-7-1-2.
Yonkman made 33 saves on 35 shots and his record is now 6-2-0-0.
The T-Birds next game is Saturday, November 22, against the Portland Winter Hawks at 7:05 p.m. at KeyArena.
