Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Kootenay Ice capitalized on two short-handed goals to edge out the Blades 4-3 on Wednesday night.

The loss ends the Blades 5 game home winning streak and leaves them with a 17-7-0-1 record, still good for top spot in the Eastern Division.

Derek Hulak scored the only goal of the first period after receiving a nice pass from defenseman Ryan Funk. Kevin King would open the scoring in the second period, followed by a nifty short-handed effort by Andrew Bailey. On a 5 on 3 Power play, Stefan Elliott would wire a shot that appeared to deflect off of Milan Kytnar. The Ice would reply quickly with another short-handed goal from Dustin Sylvester, while Hulak would close out the period with his 7th goal of the year.

On a delayed penalty against the Blades, Ian Barteaux crashed the net and squeezed a loose puck past a screened Braden Holtby. The Blades best chance of the period came when Gaelan Patterson used his speed to get behind the Ice defensemen, but his shot rang off the post.
