London Rippers News Release
NORMAL, ILLINOIS "" The Rippers (22-33) started their six game road trip with their best offensive performance in July, thumping the Normal CornBelters (17-37) 13-10.
The London bats blew up in the first inning, scoring six runs and knocking Normal starter, Tyler Stovall (1-7) out of the game after just two-thirds of an inning. The two big hits came from Mark Samuelson, who ripped a two-RBI double and Jim Vahalik, who cleared the loaded bases with a triple.
The second inning started much of the same. With the bases loaded again, Vahalik hit a sacrifice fly which brought home Joash Brodin and increased the lead to 7-0. Brodin had a monster game with a season high 5 hits "" a 2-run homer in the 5th, a double and three singles "" scoring 5 runs and driving home four runs.
The 3-4-5 hitters in the lineup "" Brodin, Samuelson and Agustin "" went 10-for-16, each hitting a home run and collecting 8 RBIs total. Jim Vahalik added 4 RBIs in the victory.
Normal got back in the game with a four run 3rd inning, but London quickly put up three more in the 4th on back-to-back homers from Samuelson, a 2-run shot, and Brad Agustin, spotting the Rippers a 10-4 advantage.
Rippers' starter Matt Schimpf (3-5) tossed 6 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits. He struck out three and walked two to earn the win.
The Rippers and CornBelters play the middle game of their three game series tomorrow at 6:30pm Central.
Yohan Gonzalez (3-4 4.09) gets the ball for London, facing Daniel Britt (3-5 5.26).
