(Joliet, IL)- Pitching dominated Thursday night's contest at Silver Cross Field, with both starters throwing shutouts through five innings, before Windy City came alive in the second half, beating Joliet 5-1.

After five scoreless innings, Steven Maxwell started to struggle for Joliet, issuing three straight singles to Windy City before Brandon Decker knocked a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to make it 1-0. Bob Glover then cleared the bases on a two-RBI double.

The ThunderBolts tacked on two more in the eighth. Chad Cregar hit a solo homer, his 16 th of the season, before Glover added another on a run scoring single, giving the game a 5-0 tally.

The Slammers broke the shutout in the bottom of the ninth when Abel Nieves sent a solo home run sailing over the right field wall, putting the final at 5-1.

Steven Maxwell was brilliant for Joliet through the first five, but ended up surrendering three runs on seven hits through five and two-thirds before being replaced by Chase Doremus, Geoff Brown, and Dustin Quatrocchi.

The Slammers continue their six-game stint at Silver Cross Field Friday against the rival Windy City ThunderBolts. It's Disney Night at the yard, and a Fireworks Friday, and good seats are still remaining. Fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
