
Miners' Hall Goes Eight Strong in Win

Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners defeated the Washington Wild Things at Rent One Park 4-2. Miners starter Cody Hall (4-0) pitched eight strong innings, giving up two runs to earn his fourth win of the season. He gave up eight runs, walked one and struck out three batters.
The Miners scored first in the bottom of the first inning off Wild Things starter Casey Barnes as Carlos Mendez hit a sacrifice fly to score Darian Sandford to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. The Miners scored another run in the bottom of the second off Barnes with a sacrifice fly by Jason Ganek to score Chad Maddox to give the Miners a 2-0 lead. Barnes gave up another run to the Miners in the bottom of the third with a base hit and RBI by Carlos Mendez to give the Miners a 3-0 lead. Jason Ganek hit a solo home run off Barnes in the bottom of the fourth with two outs to give the Miners a 4-0 lead.
Washington scored a run off Miners starter Cody Hall in the top of the fifth inning when outfielder Tanner Leighton hit a base hit and RBI to make it a 4-1 game. The Wild Things scored one more run off Hall in the top of the sixth inning with a double and RBI by catcher Rick Devereaux to make it a 4-2 game. The Miners would go on to win the game 4-2 when Albert Ayala earned his fifth save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Miners improve to 33-22 on the season. The Miners and Wild Things send their aces to the mound tomorrow as Miners starter Dave Harden will be opposed by Wild Things starter Gary Lee. First pitch at Rent One Park is at 7:05 pm.
