Bridgeport Drops Wolf Pack in Preseason Finale
October 4, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hartford Wolf Pack News Release
Cromwell, CT, October 4, 2015 - After two road preseason victories, the Hartford Wolf Pack finished their exhibition slate with a loss in their only home preseason action, a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Sunday at Champions Skating Center.
Alex Krushelnyski scored for the Wolf Pack, and Magnus Hellberg made 18 saves, but Carter Verhaeghe had a goal and an assist for Bridgeport and Christopher Gibson and Parker Milner combined to stop 28 out of 29 Hartford shots.
Verhaeghe put Bridgeport on top only 1:18 into the game, taking a pass from out of the left-wing corner from Sebastien Sylvestre and banging the puck in from right on top of Hellberg.
That was the only scoring of the first, and Bridgeport would make it a 2-0 lead at 7:46 of the second period, again on a shot from right in front of the net. Hellberg stopped a Jesse Root bid, but Tyler Barnes was there to put in the rebound.
The Wolf Pack had four power plays in the second, including a two-man advantage of 1:23, but could not beat Bridgeport starter Gibson (16 saves).
Milner (12 saves) replaced Gibson to start the third period, and Milner was greeted quickly by Krushelnyski's goal at 1:10. Krushelnyski deflected in a right-point shot by Calle Andersson, but Bridgeport restored the two-goal advantage at 4:45, with Jesse Graham scoring from the right side of the slot, off of a pass from Verhaeghe.
The Wolf Pack open their 19th regular season of AHL play at the XL Center this Saturday, October 10, hosting the St. John's IceCaps in a 7:00 PM game.
