ALBANY, NY - Goaltender Brian Elliott posted a 33 save shutout as he carried the Binghamton Senators to a 3-0 win over the Albany River Rats Saturday night at the Times Union Center.

Early in the first period the Senators created some good scoring opportunities, out-shooting Albany 6-2 through the first six minutes of play. Danny Bois scored on Binghamton's seventh shot of the frame, squeezing the puck between Albany goaltender Justin Peters and the post at 6:43; Mattias Karlsson and Zack Smith assisted on the assistant captain's fifth of the season. Despite out-shooting the Senators 10-6 for the rest of the period, Albany could not even the score before the intermission.

Binghamton came out with as much intensity as they had in the first period. Midway through the period River Rats captain Pat Dwyer skated in on a short-handed breakaway, but was robbed by the quick glove of Senators goalie Brian Elliott. Over the remainder of the period Albany had trouble staying out of the penalty box and Binghamton cashed in on a power play at 16:05 when Greg Mauldin deflected a rising shot down into the net to make it a 2-0 game.

In the third period it was the Senators who found themselves in penalty trouble. Matt Carkner took a double-minor roughing penalty just 1:18 in and a tripping minor to Elliott 10 seconds later gave the River Rats a 5-on-3 advantage. Albany lit the lamp 1:25 into the two-man advantage, but the referee waived the goal off, ruling that his whistle had blown before the puck crossed the line. Though the River Rats moved the puck well during the extended power play, they could not cut into the Binghamton lead. Albany out-shot the Senators 14-9 in the third period, but Elliott's strong play in goal and an empty net tally by Ryan Shannon at 19:38 secured the 3-0 win for the B-Sens.

Binghamton starter Brian Elliott made 33 saves for his second shut-out of the season, lifting the Senators to 13-9-2-3 on the season. In his first start since a week-long stint in Carolina, River Rats goalie Justin Peters turned aside 33-of-35 shots and took the loss as Albany fell to 9-12-3-2. Binghamton out-shot the River Rats 36-33 in the game and went 1-for-5 on the power play; Albany went 0-for-9 with the man advantage.

The River Rats will complete a two-game weekend home stand on Sunday, December 14th as they host the Portland Pirates for a 5:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center.
