
Aeros dominate league-leading Hershey Bears 6-1

HOUSTON, Texas - After a 1-1 tie coming out of the first period it was all Houston Aeros in the second when they tallied five goals en route to a 6-1 victory over the Hershey Bears. 9,113 fans were on hand at Toyota Center Saturday night were on hand to see the Aeros set a couple of season records to upset the league's best team. Krys Kolanos scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season when he one-timed the puck past Bears' goaltender Daren Machesney. Aeros' left winger Mike Hamilton fed Kolanos from behind the goal line as Kolanos was striding toward the net. Marco Rosa also earned an assist on the play to give the Aeros a 1-0 lead that unleashed the Teddy Bear Toss when the fans sent a barrage of bears onto the ice in support of Channel 11's Spirit of Texas Toy Drive. Hershey tied the game at the 13:50 mark when Kyle Wilson wristed a shot through a defensmen's legs and past goaltender Barry Brust. He was assisted by Quintin Laing and Patrick Wellar and it proved to be the lone goal of the game for Hershey. The Bears outshot the Aeros 10-4 in the period, but finished the period tied at one.
Houston opened the flood gates in the second period tallying five goals on five consecutive shots all within 6:01 from five different players. Kolanos scored his second goal of the game and 15th of the season at the 10:58 mark to make it 2-1. Jason Deitsch was set up in the slot by a one-touch pass from Jesse Schultz for a power play goal at the 12:02 mark. Houston tallied their third goal in as many shots when Corey Locke touched a centering pass from Kolanos past the goaltender at the 12:57 mark. Peter Olvecky tallied his fourth of the season and second in as many games at the 14:59 mark. Schultz ended the Aeros onslaught at the 16:59 mark when he took a cross-slot pass from Marco Rosa and buried it for his third goal of the season.
The frame was held scoreless as the Aeros retained their 6-1 lead for the victory. Houston out-shot the Bears 13-9 in the final period as both teams kept up the pace despite the Hershey deficit. The third period also more than doubled the total infractions with 15 penalties called. Houston finished with 32 penalty minutes on 13 infractions to the Bears' 42 minutes on 14 infractions. Houston finished with 32 shots to Hershey's 30 shots on net with Brust knocking aside 29 of them.
