Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester)... The Rochester Americans scored three unanswered goals to defeat the Lake Erie Monsters 3-1 tonight at Quicken Loans Arena. Rochester has now won three of its last five for the first time of the season with the victory to improve to 2-0-0-0 against Lake Erie and 6-20-0-2 on the season.
Michael Duco, Jacob Micflikier and David Brine each contributed a goal to provide the offense for the Amerks, while defenseman Noah Welch notched a pair of assists. Mike Brodeur made his fifth consecutive start, the longest of any Amerks goaltender this season, backstopping Rochester with a 20-save performance to garner second star honors. Brodeur has now been selected as one of the game's three stars in four of his five games since joining Rochester.
Chris Durno scored Lake Erie's lone goal as Jason Bacashihua made 23 saves in the losing effort for the hometown Monsters.
Durno opened the scoring at 11:17 of the first period to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead, and ultimately their only goal of the contest, heading into the second period.
Duco would respond for Rochester, jumpstarting a three-goal run, with his sixth goal of the season at 11:30 of the second stanza to even the game at 1-1. Drew Larman and Welch received assists on the play.
The Amerks extended the lead to 2-1 as Micflikier netted his second of the season on the power play at 7:52 of the final frame after Jesse Boulerice was called for tripping. The goal, which proved to be the game-winner, was assisted by Jason Garrison and Janis Sprukts.
Rochester struck again four minutes later to secure the win as Brine found the back of the net for his second goal of the season, with assists going to Welch and Kenndal McArdle.
Rochester closes arduous five-game six-night stretch on Sunday, December 14th as the Amerks return home to face their longtime rivals, the Syracuse Crunch.
