Brett Harrison Is Ready to be the Difference for an NHL Organization
July 21, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ont.- On his way towards being one of the top forwards in the OHL, Brett Harrison is looking for his name to be called at the NHL draft this weekend.
Last hitting the ice during his rookie season with the Generals, during the 2019-2020 OHL season, Harrison became the first rookie since John Tavares to score at least 20 goals with the team. In 58 games, he scored 21 goals and 16 assists for 37 points.
The London, Ont., native has been fortunate enough to continue his on-ice development over the last year, despite the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the postponement and eventual cancellation of the 2020-2021 season, Harrison found himself in Koovee, Finland.
In seven games with U20 Koovee Harrison scored four goals and five assists, earning a call-up to the top-level Koovee team in the Mestis league.
Following a successful stint overseas at the club level, Harrison earned a selection to the Team Canada roster for the IIHF U-18 World Hockey Championship in Texas. On route to a Gold medal, Harrison played seven games and scored two goals.
With the stands in Texas almost exclusively made up of NHL scouts and executives, Harrison wasted little time making a name for himself despite missing an entire season with his home club.
"Whoever takes Brett will have themselves a player that can be a cornerstone of there organization for years to come," said General Manager, Roger Hunt. "He is a player that makes players better around him, is mature beyond his years and will be a captain in the NHL one day."
Tune in this weekend, Friday July 23 and 24 to see where Harrison will land in this year's NHL draft.
