
Mason McTavish Invited to Canada's National Junior Team Summer Development Camp

(Peterborough, ON) - Hockey Canada has announced that 51 players, including Petes forward Mason McTavish, has been invited to attend Canada's National Junior Team summer development camp, July 28-Aug. 4 at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on the Tsuut'ina Nation near Calgary.
Five goaltenders, 16 defencemen and 30 forwards , including McTavish's U18 Hockey Canada teammates Shane Wright and Brennan Othmann, will be part of the eight-day camp, participating in a variety of on and off-ice sessions. The camp will also feature combined practices and intrasquad games with players attending Canada's National Men's Under-18 Team summer development camp on Aug. 2-3.
McTavish helped Team Canada win gold for the first time since 2013, at the 2021 U18 IIHF World Championships, while serving as an alternate captain. The 6'2", 207 lbs centre finished the tournament with 11 points (five goals, six assists) in seven games, ranking fifth overall in the tournament and tied second on Team Canada.
The Pembroke, Ontario native is currently ranked second amongst all North American Skaters and is the highest rated forward on NHL Central Scouting finalized rankings. The Petes 5th overall pick from the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, was loaned to the EHC Olten of the Swiss League while the OHL awaited the start of the 2020-21 season. While playing overseas, McTavish amassed 11 points (nine goals, two assists) in 13 regular season games and seven points (two goals, five assists) in four playoff games.
The 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship returns to Canadian ice this winter, with Edmonton and Red Deer set to co-host the annual holiday tradition from Dec. 26, 2021 to Jan. 5, 2022. Games will be played at Rogers Place, the home of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers and the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings, and at the Peavey Mart Centrium, home of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels.
The Petes will welcome the Sudbury Wolves and first overall draft pick Quentin Musty for their home opener on Thursday, October 14 at 7:05 pm. Tickets are now on sale for the 2021-22 season.
