July 2, 2015 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release

The Rome Braves took a first-inning lead and never looked back as they went on to a 5-1 win over the Lexington Legends Thursday night in Rome. The Legends had 11 hits, but left 12 men on base and averted a shutout with a ninth-inning run.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, back-to-back doubles by Jordan Edgerton and Matt Tellor produced a run for Rome, and Tellor came home on Braxton Davidson's single.

The Braves added a run in the fifth on a single by Joseph Daris and a triple by Ozzie Albies, and the Braves scored two more runs in the seventh. Tanner Murphy's solo homer, his first home run of the season, gave Rome a 4-0 lead. Stephen Gaylor followed Murphy's homer with a single. He moved to third on a single by Connor Oliver. Oliver stole second, and Gaylor scored when the ball got away from shortstop Humberto Arteaga for an error.

The Legends' lone run came in the ninth when they loaded the bases on two walks and a single, and Samir Duenez scored as Ryan O'Hearn grounded into a force play.

Rome starter Zach Quintana (1-1), who pitched five shutout innings, was the winning pitcher. Legends starter Scott Blewett (2-1), who worked six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits, took the loss.

Each team has won one game in the series, which concludes Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
